because social status matters in marriage. most people can make friends with people of lower social status but marriage is a big deal. especially because it concerns families and what not.

Imagine a poor guy marries a girl from a rich family and he obviously can't continue to provide her the kind of food she's used to, the kind of clothes she's used to wearing, the kind of house she's used to live in and the kind of places she's used to visiting etc etc; will there be peace for her? Also imagine a rich guy marries a girl from a poor family. The next thing is she can't cook the kind of food he's used to eating, she can't talk in the way he's used to hearing ladies of his status talk, she can't dress well, he takes her to his family house and she's looked down upon by his sisters, she can't operate a washing machine and other things in the house; will there be peace for the guy? Although real love has a way of making people fall for each other irrespective of socioeconomic status, what matters in marriage is not only love but also compatibility and understanding which require both partners to be as closely matched to each other as possible in terms of education, socioeconomic status, lifestyle, culture, religion etc etc So the saying that kwarya ta bi kwarya is no joke.

The truth is that, if you want to get rich its a task upon yourself to work hard and accomplish that, not wait to be entitled for someone else's money by marriage. Its a wrong way to think. If you are poor explore avenues to get yourself out of that poverty don't stay in one corner waiting to marry a rich man.
